Looking at the NEWS April 24, 2018 Dunning-Kruger

When your vocal dissent, disapproval or opposition is criminalized,
then you know that your society is less free than Communist China.

Neither poverty nor lack of education is synonymous with Ignorance. Ignorance is really just a mindset. [Click the photo to see more photos of the Chinese countryside.]

Virtue Signaling is a sure sign of Ignorance

In a recent Looking at the NEWS Mar 9, 2018 Pot Calling the Kettle I wrote:

They not only do not slobber at the mouth in praise of believing Christians for example, but in their virtue signaling orgasm they set the stage for the abuse of the regular Islamic Joe Blow by those in Islam who want to see YOU DEAD. Actually one must wonder if this virtue signaling and politically correct love of Islam is not just some form of rejection of the Judeo-Christian heritage that western people have, and over which so many feel such guilt which is twice intoned should they happen to have white skin.

The theme behind the article was the deliberate hypocrisy of many of the virtue signaling crowd, but the reality is that many people are not hypocrites, they are just ignorant. They simply believe what they want to believe and haven’t got either the integrity or the intelligence (or both) to challenge their own beliefs. As noted in this next article, this phenomenon is called the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

The Dunning-Kruger Effect

The American Dunning-Kruger Epidemic (Or Why Ignorant People Are So Sure They’re Right) by Daisy Luther

The Dunning Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which individuals, who are unskilled at a particular task, believe themselves to possess above-average ability in performing the task. On the other hand, as individuals become more skilled in a particular task, they may mistakenly believe that they possess below-average ability in performing those tasks because they may assume that all others possess equal or greater ability. In other words, “the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others.” (source)

The next time you find yourself feeling angry or exasperated by some loudmouthed know-it-all, just take a breath and ponder the question: ‘is this person suffering from a genuine psychological dysfunction, or are they just ignorant and hypocritical ideologues?’ But by all means do try to explain to them your position in relation to the topic under discussion.

Explaining My Position

In my most recent Looking at the NEWS article (April 18, 2018: Myths & Perspectives) there was a concentration of references in relation to the American 2nd Amendment. It appears that I have given some readers the impression that I am in favor of and believe in carrying weapons. So for the sake of both the ideologues and those suffering from psychological disorders, I am going to clarify my position.

1. I am Australian and in Australia guns are registered and background checks are done.
2. Australia does not have a 2nd Amendment with its Right to Bear Arms. (Our constitution only gives us the right to BARE arms.)
3. Any Australian who wants to rubbish the Yanks [meaning Americans] is free to do so since we have free speech rights, but to pontificate on the American 2nd Amendment is not just arrogant but pointless. These people are just virtue signalling.
4. I believe that all gun owners should be registered and should have had their backgrounds checked prior to being able to walk off with a gun.
5. I do not believe that just anyone who wants a gun should have access to military type assault rifles.
6. I believe that there are always situations which do not neatly fit in the box and that a ‘one-rule-fits-all’ approach ignores reality.

So there you have it. I support American citizens who wish to avail themselves of their constitutional rights, and feel that any non-American who wishes to argue about the issue should go take a flying leap, and further, that any American who wishes to void the 2nd Amendment should also agree to void all their other constitutional rights.

But Please Note that if this conservative daily post article is correct and there are Iranian sleeper cells in the USA, then I would recommend that EVERYONE gets hold of a gun NOW.

America is not the World and vice versa
Which Markle family members are not invited to the wedding?

According to a report I read today, Thomas, the brother of the future Markle Royal, has lifted the lid on the rifts that have split his family as half-sister Meghan prepares to tie the knot with Prince Harry. The report states that “In a bombshell interview just a month before the couple get married, he claimed the US actress lost touch with relatives when she became a Hollywood star.”

Perhaps Americans, who have no actual Royal Family, do not understand the restrictions that convention places on the British Royals and so they do not understand that the constant trickle of Markle Family verbiage was pretty much guaranteed from the outset to have repercussions. Brother Thomas is quoted as having said: Maybe the normal American family she has is embarrassing to her because we’re not producers and executive producers.” I would agree with the first part of his quote but consider the second half to be irrelevant.

When the first reports of Markle Family verbiage began to filter through, I for one wondered if it would eventually result in the cancellation of the Royal Wedding. Fortunately it hasn’t!

Perhaps some Americans think that the Springer Show and so called Reality Shows represent ‘American normalcy’ but if they do, then they need to understand that the world is not the USA and American daily life, culture and thinking is not reflective of how the rest of the world thinks and feels.

Perhaps before engaging in publicity grabbing and mudslinging, the Markle Family ought to have received counsel from the Royal Court on how to deal with their new found fame. After all, it is not they who are becoming royals.

The problem for the Markles appears to be that they chose the wrong time and place to air their grievances with the Princess to be. It all goes back to that Dunning-Kruger Effect.

Choosing the Time and the Place to fight your battles.
Chick-fil-A Sandwich with a side of LGBT

Six years ago after the Chick-fil-A debacle commenced, I put pen to paper so to speak and wrote “Disaster When the Tide Turns! The Chick-Fil-A Saga” from which I now quote:

Various polls show majority support for Gay Marriage, but the Majority of people are not gay and that is something of which the Gay lobby and all those intolerant PC types should be aware. Most people don’t feel threatened by homosexuals and homosexuality, but what they do feel threatened by is TOTALITARIANISM – the Communist intolerance for free speech and forced compliance with Big Brother doctrines. The tide will always turn and return. This is its natural cycle. But when the tide rises so high that it threatens the fabric of society; threatens the security and peace of a society, people will rise up against the tide… If there is one thing that the Chick-Fil-A saga is now demonstrating, it is that people are rising up to reclaim their liberties – foremost of which is to have an opinion and express it. When your vocal dissent, disapproval or opposition is criminalized, then you know that your society is less free than Communist China today.

Many Americans fail to understand how Donald Trump could legitimately have won the Presidency but had they paid attention to what was expressed in that article listed above, they might have been able to see. Now, six years after publication of that article, Chick-Fil-A is back in the news but this time the emphasis is upon the crime of promoting Christianity – as this article at Townhall April 18, 2018 written by Michelle Malin indicates:

Notice, by the way, how these hysterical Chick-fil-a-phobes have no qualms about the success of Jewish-owned delis or the spread of Muslim halal food shop operators in New York City who openly pay tribute to their faiths. Imagine a reporter freaking out over Quran verses or Torah citations hung up on a business owner’s wall. Welcome to Social Justice 101, where discriminating against Christian-owned business in the name of opposing discrimination is the definition of tolerance. (Return of the Feckless Chick-Fil-A-Phobes )

The problem with Chick-Fil-A appears not to reside in anything that the company actually does but rather in the beliefs of the family that owns the company. Many activists, particularly of the LGBT variety DEMAND that they be treated with respect, but REFUSE to respect other’s rights to their own lives.

When you refuse to give to others that which you yourself demand,
then you are just a hypocrite.

It amazes me sometimes how those activists who complain about TOTALITARIAN CHINA, can’t see that their attitudes and behaviors in their allegedly Democratic countries are equally as totalitarian. [Click the photo for more photos of my trip to Beijing]

We all believe that we are right – But are We?

I’m going to finish this edition with something quite unrelated to any of the foregoing but it does very directly touch upon the idea of believing that we are correct when there is plenty of evidence to suggest that we are wrong.
