Arab political-incorrectness on the Palestinian issue
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
October 5, 2018

Riyadh has never considered the Palestinian issue a top geo-strategic priority – except its generous talk, but no walk – as demonstrated from 1979-1989 by its $1BN annual aid to the anti-Soviet Islamic campaign in Afghanistan, compared with $100MN annual aid to the PLO. Also, while UNRWA highlighted a “$50MN landmark contribution by Saudi Arabia” on behalf of Palestinian refugees, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman put it in realistic perspective by purchasing a 440ft-long yacht for $588MN and a Leonardo da Vinci painting for $450MN.

No Arab demographic time bomb
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
September 28, 2018

In October 1944, the founder of Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics (ICBS), and the luminary of Israel’s demographic and statistical establishment, Prof. Roberto Bachi, projected 2.3 million Jews in Israel in 2001, a 34% minority. Bachi’s projection reflected the demographic establishment’s underwhelming assessment of Jewish fertility and immigration (Aliyah) and the overwhelming assessment of Arab fertility. In 2018, there are seven million Jews in Israel, a 65.5% majority in the combined area of pre-1967 Israel, Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), enjoying an effective demographic tailwind.

Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) guide for the perplexed, 2018
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
September 23, 2018

Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles named after the first stop during the Exodus from Egypt, the town of Sukkota (סכותה) – Exodus 13:20-22 and Numbers 33:3-5. It commemorates the transition of the Jewish people from bondage in Egypt to sovereignty in the Land of Israel; from nomadic life in the desert to permanence in the Promised Land; from oblivion to deliverance; and from the spiritual state-of-mind during the High Holidays to the mundane of the rest of the year. Sukkot aims at universal – not only Jewish – deliverance.

Yom Kippur guide for the perplexed, 2018
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
September 18, 2018

Yom Kippur is observed on the 10th day of the Jewish month of Tishrei, whose astrological sign is Libra (), which symbolizes the key themes of Yom Kippur: scales, justice, balance, truth, symmetry, sensitivity and optimism. Libra is ruled by the planet Venus (Noga, נגה, in Hebrew, the name of my oldest granddaughter), which reflects divine light and love of other people.

US departure from conventional wisdom
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
September 16, 2018

In contrast to his predecessors, Trump and his advisors – National Security Advisor John Bolton, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, Special Emissary Jason Greenblatt and Ambassador David Friedman – have concluded that the bolstering of US national security, morality and common sense behooves the US to take a realistic – and not an artificially neutral – position on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Moral equivalence has not advanced national security.

Rosh Hashanah (New Year) guide for the perplexed, 2018
Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
September 5, 2018

Rosh Hashanah is celebrated on the sixth day of Creation, when the first human-being (Adam) was created, highlighting the centrality of the soil – a metaphor for humility – in human life. Thus, the Hebrew word for a human-being is Adam (אדמ), which becomes the Hebrew spelling of “soil” (אדמה) when the Hebrew letter ה (an abbreviation of God, the Creator) is added. In addition, the Hebrew word Adam (אדמ) contains the Hebrew word for blood (דמ), the liquid of life, and is the acronym of Biblical Abraham (אברהם), David (דוד) and Moses (משה), the three role models of humility.

Has Israel advanced US interests?
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
August 27, 2018

In 2018, Israel is the chief source of intelligence (for the US) on the volatile, tectonic Middle East (and beyond), which has been a highly-complex platform of global terrorism, inherent instability, unpredictability, tyranny, domestic and regional intra-Arab/Islamic violence and intolerance, tenuous and shifty regimes, and consequently tenuous and shifty policies and agreements. In fact, the nature of the Middle East highlights Israel’s unique qualities as a systematic, democratic, effective, strategic ally of the US, whether led by right or left of center coalition governments.

Israel’s high-tech opportunities

Facebook made its 5th Israeli acquisition, buying Israel’s Redkix for $100MN. Previous Facebook acquisitions in Israel: Snaptu – $70MN, Face.com – $100MN, Onavo – $150MN and Pebbles – $60MN (Globes Business Daily, July 30, 2018).

The Palestinian polygraph – hate education and incitement
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
July 26, 2018

Anti-Israel and anti-Jewish themes, which have dominated the Palestinian curriculum and controlled-media, reflect the inherently primary geo-strategic goals of the Palestinian Authority. As documented by the Palestinian curriculum, the Palestinian Authority has not been preoccupied with the size – but with the existence – of the “infidel” Jewish State in the “abode of Islam.”

The most calamitous Jewish day The 9th Day of Av
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
July 21, 2018

From Auschwitz to the Jewish State, from exile to the ingathering/liberty in the Land of Israel. A key message of the 9th Day of Av, personally and nationally: sustain faith and hope and refrain from forgetfulness, despair, fatalism and pessimism (irrespective of the odds), which may seem – through conventional, short-term lenses – insurmountable.

US peace initiatives – Quo Vadis?
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
July 16, 2018

The subversive and terroristic track record of the Palestinians, and their closest allies, sheds light on the inherent contradiction between the need to minimize Middle East instability and violence, on the one hand, and the attempt to establish a Palestinian state, on the other hand. US peace initiatives have forced the Palestinians, in particular, and the Arabs, in general, to outflank the (“infidel”) US from the maximalist/radical side, thus further intensifying conflict and disagreements.

Israel ranks 11th in UN Happiness Report
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
July 3, 2018

According to the UN 2018 World Happiness Report (based on Gallup World Poll survey), Israel ranks 11th, as it was ranked in 2017, trailing Finland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Australia. The ranking is based on life expectancy, income, social support, freedom, trust and generosity.

Quitting UN Human Rights Council serves US interests
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
June 26, 2018

The track record of the Human Rights Council, on the one hand, and the national security and homeland security of the US, on the other hand, constitute an oxymoron. Hence, quitting the HRC enhances the interests of the US and the Free World.

US interests require Israel on the Golan Heights
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
June 19, 2018

Syria’s imperialistic aspirations and potential explosive regional impact, under an Alawite or a Sunni regime (the French Mandate designated an Alawite State in 1920), transcend the narrow context of the Arab-Israeli conflict. They are a derivative of the unique role played by Syria (a-Sham) – the home of the early Caliphs – in Islamic history. Therefore, the current Syrian powder keg has drawn an unprecedented number of Islamic terror organizations and Jihad (Holy War)-driven fighters/terrorists from the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia.

The USA-North Korea-Iran strategic interconnection
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
June 7, 2018

Since the July 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the Iran Nuclear Agreement), the Ayatollahs have radicalized and intensified their military involvement in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen, as well as their subversive and terrorist operations, aiming to topple all pro-US Arab regimes in the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Peninsula (primarily Saudi Arabia and Bahrain), Jordan and Egypt, as well as multitude of pro-Western regimes in Asia and Africa, and entrenching their anti-US presence in Latin America.

Israel’s economy praised by the Economist Intelligence Unit

Intel – which has operated in Israel since 1974, employing 11,000 persons in Israel – will invest $5BN in the expansion of one of its production facilities in Israel, while completing a previous investment of $6BN in its production facilities, mostly in the research & development area. Intel’s exports out of Israel totaled $3.6BN in 2017 and $50BN during the last 45 years. In March, 2017, Intel acquired Israel’s Mobileye for $15.3BN (Globes, May 16).

US-Israel ties: the 400-year-old unique foundations
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger

…on March 5, 1891 – antedating Theodore Herzl and the 1897 First Zionist Congress – US President, Benjamin Harrison, received the William Blackstone Memorial, which called for the reestablishment of the Jewish State in the Land of the Bible: “Palestine for the Jews.” The Memorial was signed by over 400 distinguished Americans, such as the Chief Justice, additional Supreme Court Justices, future President William McKinley, senators, congressmen (including the Speaker of the House and the Chairmen of the Ways and Means and International Relations Committees)

Prof. Bernard Lewis – unique realism on the Islamic threat
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
May 21, 2018

“As the [Arab] nationalist movement has become genuinely popular, so it has become less national and more religious – less Arab and more Islamic…. In moments of crisis it is the instinctive communal loyalty which outweighs all others…. The world is divided basically into two. One is the community of the Muslims, the other that of the unbelievers. The subdivisions among the latter are of secondary importance….

Shavou’ot (Pentecost) guide for the perplexed, 2018
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
May 18, 2018

Shavou’ot (the Hebrew word for “weeks”) is celebrated seven weeks following the second day of Passover, and constitutes a historical, national, agricultural and spiritual extension of Passover. While Passover highlights the liberty from slavery, Shavou’ot highlights the liberty to embrace the Torah, in preparation for the liberation of the Land of Israel. The harvesting season starts with Passover and concludes with Shavou’ot, which is also named the Holiday of the Harvest. Shavou’ot is one of the three Jewish liberty-oriented pilgrimages to Jerusalem.

The US Embassy in Jerusalem enhances US interests
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
May 18, 2018

Recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and relocating the US Embassy to Jerusalem – as prescribed by the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act – represent the resolve to focus on US interests in accordance with Middle East reality, while defying Arab pressure/threats and overruling the conventional “wisdom” of the State Department bureaucracy.

The Ayatollahs’ clear and present threat to the USA
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
May 8, 2018

The tyrannical Ayatollah regime – oppressing Iran’s majority – is driven by a megalomaniacal ideology, clearly reflected by its K-12 curriculum, brainwashing Iran’s youth for full commitment to the “divine battle” against the US, “the Great Satan,” the “infidel” Sunni Muslims, Christians, Jews, Baha’is, Kurds, Azerbaijanis, etc.

Lag Ba’Omer (Jewish holiday) Guide for the Perplexed, 2018
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
May 3, 2018

Lag Ba’Omer (ל”ג בעומר) is celebrated on the 33rd day following the first day of Passover (in Jewish numerology: ל=30, ג=3). It commemorates the victory of Shimon Bar-Kokhbah over the occupying military force of the Roman Empire; the death of Rabbi Shimon Bar-Yochai (a key supporter of the Bar Kokhbah revolt), who commanded his disciples to rejoice on his memorial days; and the end of the plague, which took the lives of 24,000 of Rabbi Akiva’s disciples (who were, allegedly, engaged in bad-mouthing each other, which is one of the worst offenses according to Judaism). Lag Ba’Omer is the only day of happiness during the 50 days of soul-cleansing between Passover (commemorating the liberation from the Egyptian Bondage) and Shavou’ot/Pentecost (receiving the Torah and the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai).

At 70 – Israel’s economy exceeds expectations
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
April 27, 2018

In 2018, Forbes Magazine quoted Warren Buffett (February 26, 2018): “I’m not Jewish, but Israel reminds me of the USA after its birth. The determination, motivation, intelligence and initiative of its people are remarkable and extraordinary. I’m a big believer in Israel’s economy.” According to Forbes, “Buffett just purchased a $358MN stake in Teva Pharmaceutical, 1.8% of Teva’s outstanding shares…. In 2006, Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway purchased an 80% stake in Israel’s Iscar for $4BN, its first international acquisition

US bombing Syria – mission accomplished
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
April 16, 2018

Trump’s predecessors assumed that their counter-terrorism mission could be accomplished through a series of limited, immediate and tactical operations, bringing the troops back home ASAP. However, contrary to their expectations, their well-intentioned actions undermined their comprehensive, long-term, sustained and strategic mission to clip the wings of Islamic terrorism and enhance homeland security. While they won certain battles, they failed to clip the wings of Islamic terrorism and did not win the overall war.

2018: Israel’s demography defies conventional wisdom
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
April 13, 2018

The systematic Westernization of Arab fertility – from 9.5 births per woman in 1960 to 3.11 in 2016 – reflects the accelerated integration of Israeli Arab women into modernity, and their enhanced social status within the Arab society. For instance, as it is among the Arabs in Judea and Samaria (West Bank), whose fertility rate has declined from 5 births per woman in 2000 to 3.27 births in 2017 – and unlike their social standing a generation ago – almost all Arab girls in Israel, Judea and Samaria complete high school, and increasingly enroll in colleges and universities. This process has delayed the wedding-age and the reproductive process – which used to start at the age of 15-16 – to the age of 20 years old and older. It has also expanded the use of contraceptives.

Passover Guide for the Perplexed, 2018 (a US angle)
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
March 28, 2018

Passover highlights the central role of women: Yocheved, Moses’ mother, hid Moses and then breastfed him at the palace of Pharaoh, posing as a nursemaid; Miriam, Moses’ older sister, was her brother’s keeper; Batyah, the daughter of Pharaoh saved and adopted Moses (Numbers 2:1-10); Shifrah and Pou’ah, two Jewish midwives, risked their lives, sparing the lives of Jewish male babies, in violation of Pharaoh’s command (Numbers 1:15-19); Tziporah, Moses’ wife, saved the life of Moses and set him back on the Jewish course (Numbers, 4:24-27). They followed in the footsteps of Sarah, Rebecca, Leah and Rachel, the Matriarchs who engineered, in many respects, the roadmap of the Patriarchs.

Demographic time bomb? Mistaken or misleading!
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
March 20, 2018

In 2018, the fertility rates in the Muslim World (except for the Sub-Sahara region) are substantially Westernized due to urbanization (e.g., from a 70% rural society, the Palestinian Authority evolved into a 75% urban society), integration of women into the labor and education systems (completing high school and increasingly enrolling in colleges and universities), the surge of wedding-age above 20, a decline of teen-pregnancy and a dramatic expansion of the use of contraceptives. For example, Iran and Saudi Arabia feature 2 births per woman, Egypt – 3.6, Jordan – 3.2 and the Palestinian Authority – 3 births per woman.

Arab-Palestinian relations defy conventional wisdom
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
March 14, 2018

Furthermore, the pro-US Arab policy-makers do not forget, nor forgive, Palestinian subversion, in collaboration with the Muslim Brotherhood, in Egypt during the early 1950s and in collaboration with Islamic terrorism in the Sinai Peninsula in 2018; the murder of Syrian intelligence officers in 1966; the terroristic attempt to topple their host Hashemite regime in 1970; the triggering of a series of civil wars in Lebanon during the 1970s; and the back-stabbing of the most hospitable Kuwaiti regime, through their collaboration with Saddam Hussein’s 1990 invasion and the plunder of the Emirate.

Israeli Innovations Trigger Global Enhancement

In 2014, hackers stole the personal information of roughly 47 percent of the American adult population, and in 2013, they managed to successfully breach 43 percent of American companies. A firewall is the lifeblood of cyber security, and the Check Point firewall was the first of many Israeli innovations that secure global communication. Today, Check Point’s firewall protects more than 100,000 businesses, including 94% of Fortune 100 firms, 87% of Fortune 500 firms, and nearly every government around the world.

US Embassy in Jerusalem enhances US Interest
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Feb 27, 2018

The relocation of the US Embassy to Jerusalem reflects the realization that retreat in the face of threats and pressure intensifies anti-US policies, aggression and terrorism, while defiance of pressure is a prerequisite for the rehabilitation of deterrence, a precondition to peace and security.

Vote of confidence in Israel’s brainpower
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Feb 21, 2018

Israel has attracted over 300 global high tech companies due to its brain-power, which has been enhanced by a “do-or-die” state of mind – militarily, economically, educationally, agriculturally, irrigation-wise and balance of trade-wise, yielding game-changing, ground-breaking solutions and technologies.

Israeli bombing Syria enhanced US national security
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Feb 18, 2018

Moreover, the lessons of the Israeli military operation upgraded the capabilities of the US Air Force and the US’ posture of deterrence, exposed the vulnerabilities of advanced Soviet military systems – which were deemed impregnable until then – undermined the regional and global Soviet strategic stature, tilted the global balance of power in favor of the US and prevented the loss of many American lives.

US Palestinian policy – water or gasoline?
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Feb 8, 2018

Contrary to previous US presidents and Secretaries of State, since 1993, Trump does not ignore the significance of the K-12 Palestinian hate-curriculum – which has been shaped since 1993/94 by Mahmoud Abbas – as the most authentic reflection (much more than Palestinian statements for Western consumption) of the Palestinian Authority’s long-term strategy and worldview, and a most effective production-line of terrorists.

Trump’s State of the Union bolsters allies’ confidence
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Feb 3, 2018

President Trump’s critical and urgent challenge is to reconnect the US national and homeland security policy with the 1,400-year-old unpredictable, violent, treacherous and threatening Middle East reality, and disconnect from former President Obama’s worldview, which window-dressed the volcanic, anti-Western Middle East reality to accord the principles of peaceful-coexistence and the struggle for human rights and economic prosperity.

Israel’s sustained economic growth
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
January 22, 2018

Israel’s national debt-to-GDP ratio declines, systematically, from 70.6% in 2008, 69.6% in 2010, 67.1% in 2012 and 64.8% in 2014 to 60.6% in 2016 (Globes Business Daily, January 12, 2018). Israel’s exports are challenged by the appreciation of Israel’s Shekel, reflecting the robust performance of Israel’s economy (e.g., keeping inflation at 1%-3%; 4.1% unemployment, rising GDP and GDP per capita, etc.). In 2017, Israel’s exports surged, for the first time, beyond $100BN ($43BN hightech) – a 5% increase over 2016.

No foreign aid to Palestinians – a US interest!
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
January 8, 2018

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has resolved and settled – since 1945 – the refugee status of almost 100MN refugees throughout the globe with 6,400 employees. In contrast, UNRWA – which was established in 1949 as a 2-3 year relief agency – has perpetuated and misrepresented the refugee status of the 320,000 1948 Palestinian refugees, employing 30,000 people.

President Trump’s security strategy: the impact on Israel
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Dec 21, 2017

Apparently, Trump does not embrace the myth of the Palestinian issue as – supposedly – a core cause of regional instability, a crown-jewel of Arab policy-makers, nor the crux of the Arab-Israeli conflict. According to Trump, apologies, appeasement and multilateralism have been replaced by America-first patriotism, the independence of unilateral US military action, the resurgence of the US posture of deterrence, an expanded defense budget and peace-through-strength.

Chanukah guide for the perplexed, 2017

In 175 BCE, the Seleucid Emperor Antiochus (IV) Epiphanies of Syria (1/3 of the disintegrated Greek Empire) wished to exterminate Judaism and forcibly convert Jews to Hellenism. He suspected that the Jews were allies of his chief rival, Egypt. In 169 BCE, upon returning to Syria from a war against Egypt, he devastated Jerusalem, massacred Jews, forbade the practice of Judaism and desecrated the Temple.

Relocating US Embassy to Jerusalem – US interest!
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Dec 6, 2017

Recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and relocating the US Embassy to Jerusalem – as prescribed by the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act – represent President Trump’s resolve to focus on US interests, defy Arab pressure/threats, and overrule the politically-correct bureaucracy of the State Department.

Critical lessons of the 1947 Partition Plan
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
December 1, 2017

In 1947, and since then, none of the Arab countries have considered the Palestinian issue a primary concern. Therefore, upon the conclusion of the 1948-49 war, Egypt, Jordan and Syria, occupied Gaza, Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) and the Golan Heights’ al-Hama, but never considered transferring it to the Palestinians. Furthermore, in 1949, the Arab League established the Palestinian Desk, which was summarily abolished in 1951-52. None of the ensuing Arab wars against Israeli was launched on behalf of the Palestinians. Also, the Arabs have never intervened, militarily, in any of the Israel-Palestinian conflicts.

Palestinian state – enhancing or eroding US national security?
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Nov 17, 2017

Since the 1993 Oslo Accord, the documented track record of the Palestinian political, religious and media establishment has featured K-12 hate-education and religious incitement. This constitutes the most authoritative reflection of the worldview, state-of-mind and strategic goals of the proposed Palestinian state. Moreover, since the 1930s, the Palestinian track record has highlighted close ties with the enemies and adversaries of the US and the Free World.

The Jewish-Arab demographic about-face
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Nov 11, 2017

In 2017, in defiance of demographic conventional “wisdom,” there are 6.8MN Jews in the Land of Israel (including Judea and Samaria), a 66% majority, benefitting from a robust demographic tailwind. In 2017, the total number of Arabs in Judea and Samaria is 1.8MN, not 3MN as claimed by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics. The latter includes in its count over 400,000 Palestinians who have been away for over a year; over 300,000 Jerusalem Arabs, who are doubly-counted (by Israel and by the Palestinian Authority); and 100,000 Palestinians who married Israeli Arabs and received Israeli ID cards, who are also doubly-counted.

Wake up America, Islamic terrorism targets you!

The NYC bicycle-path-terror was carried out by a member of the Islamic “pack of wolves” – not by a “lone wolf” – which has been systematically brainwashed and molded by the most effective production-line of Muslim terrorists: hate-education and incitement conducted by Islamic leaders, educators, social media and imams in mosques (and in US prisons!) in Muslim countries as well as in the US.

Iran – will the US Congress rise to the challenge?
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger

President Trump’s non-certification provides Congress with an opportunity to reclaim its constitutional role as a co-equal and co-determining branch of government, while exposing the inherently rogue Ayatollahs, who have intensified instability, unpredictability, subversion, terrorism and wars in the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Peninsula, the Middle East at-large, Africa, Asia and other parts of the globe.

Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles) guide for the perplexed, 2017
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Oct 5, 2017

The holiday of Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles) is dedicated to the study of the Book of Ecclesiastes, which was often quoted by the late Senator Robert Byrd, the longest serving Senator and Member of Congress in US history, who was known to quote Biblical verses. For example, on November 7, 2008, Senator Byrd announced his retirement from the chairmanship of the Senate Appropriations Committee: “’To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven.’ Those Biblical words from Ecclesiastes 3:1 express my feelings about this particular time in my life.”

Concessions to Palestinians: choking or inflaming terrorism?
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger
Oct 3, 2017

Furthermore, the Oslo Accord doomed Arabs in Judea and Samaria to be ruled by one of the most ruthless, intolerant Arab regimes. In May 2000, Prime Minister Ehud Barak retreated, hastily, from Southern Lebanon, indicating that Israel could not sustain the average annual loss of 24 soldiers in Lebanon. It was perceived as a symptom of vacillation, which was reinforced by the July 2000 Camp David Summit between Barak, Arafat and Clinton, when Barak conceded unprecedented Israeli ground on the issues of Jerusalem and Palestinian refugees.

The Hebrew/Biblical synonym for “fast” צם) and (צום is תענית, a derivative of the Hebrew words ענה and עני, which means to torture one’s body through soul-searching and fasting, to respond to spiritual needs, and to identify oneself with poverty during the cleansing process. Yom Kippur concludes ten days of genuine, heart-driven atonement, repentance and soul-searching, which began on Rosh Hashanah, the first day of Tishrei, which commemorates the Creation.

Rosh Hashanah (New Year) guide for the perplexed, 2017
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
September 21, 2017

Rosh Hashanah was conceived by Jewish sages, during the Second Temple period, referring to the Biblical “day of blowing the shofar” and “the day of commemorating the blowing of the shofar” (Leviticus 23:23-25, Numbers 29:1-6). Commemoration is a central Jewish value – a prerequisite for national cohesion, survival, an enhanced future and refraining from past critical errors, while forgetfulness spells ignorance, loss of critical values and lessons, and therefore the repetition of past errors.

Islamic terrorism – extrinsic or intrinsic?
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Sept 18, 2017

“Nearly every day seems to bring a new horror to the streets of Western Europe…. Death and injury have been dealt out by truck, ax, handgun, kebab knife and bomb….” 11 million Muslims have been killed since 1948, of which 35,000 (0.3%) were killed during Arab-Israeli wars. Over 90% were killed by fellow Muslims. This background – which is consistent with inter-Muslim relations since the rise of Islam in the seventh century – begs the following questions..

Israeli export of goods and services grew by 6% during the first half of 2017 – higher than the first half of 2016 – totaling $50BN (Globes, August 31). The petrochemical giant, MexiChem, acquired 80% of Israel’s smart irrigation, Netafim, for $1.5BN. Netafim employs 4,500 persons in 110 countries (1,000 in Israel), owns 17 production plants and 29 subsidiaries (Globes, August 8, 2017).

UNmasking the UN
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Sept. 6, 2017

UNscrupulous and UNspeakable. According to UN Watch, the 2017 membership of the UN Human Rights Council – elected with a mandate “to uphold the highest standards in the promotion and protection of human rights” – includes systematic, grave violators of human rights such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, Cuba, Burundi, Eritrea, Bangladesh and China.

Quo Vadis the Arab Tsunami (a.k.a. “the Arab Spring”)?
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
August 23, 2017

While the US has dealt a severe blow to ISIS terrorists in 2017 – without clipping the wings of Iran’s Ayatollahs – it has, therefore, provided a tailwind to Iran’s entrenchment in Syria, and increasingly in Lebanon. It has advanced the Ayatollahs’ domination of the critical area from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean, which is a prelude to their megalomaniacal vision of denying the US “modern-day-Crusader” regional and global preeminence.

Reality vs. political correctness
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
August 13, 2017

A Palestinian state west of the Jordan River, on the mountain ridges of Judea and Samaria, would undermine regional stability, eroding Western interests. It would provide a decisive tailwind to the current attempts to topple the pro-US Hashemite regime east of the Jordan River. During the Israel-Jordan peace treaty ceremony, Jordanian military leaders pleaded with their Israeli counter-parts to not allow the establishment of a Palestinian state west of the river, lest it would topple the Hashemite regime east of the river.

Arabs marginalize the Palestinian issue
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger
August 7, 2017

In 1948-49 – as was the case in succeeding Arab-Israeli wars – Arab countries did not fight Israel on behalf of Palestinians. Therefore, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt did not share the spoils of the 1948-49 war with Palestinians, prohibiting Palestinian activities in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) and Gaza. In fact, a Palestinian Department was established, by the Arab League, in 1949, to be dissolved in 1959.

The Ninth Day of Av guide for the perplexed (August 1, 2017)
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
July 28, 2017

The most calamitous day in Jewish history. The 9th Day of Av (the 11th Jewish month) is first mentioned in the book of Zechariah 7:3. One of four Jewish fast days, it commemorates dramatic national catastrophes (related to the destruction of Jerusalem), in an attempt to benefit from history by avoiding – rather than repeating – critical, moral and strategic missteps. It concludes the 21 days of predicament and lamentation, which began when the walls of Jerusalem were breached by Nebuchadnezzar (1st Temple) and Titus (2nd Temple), launching a seven-week period of consolation, ingathering and renewal.

Obstacles to peace a politically-incorrect diagnosis
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
July 18, 2017

Political-correctness resembles a surgeon, who focuses on the spot of the surgery, ignoring the complex medical history of the entire body and its bearing upon the surgery. For instance, the sustained Arab war against the Jewish State has taken place in the Middle East, which has featured a systematic, regional state-of-war, terrorism, subversion, provisional one-bullet-regimes, tenuous policies and agreements, short-lived ceasefires and the lack of civil liberties since the seventh century appearance of Islam.

The US-Iran Syndrome: Leverage or Squander?
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
July 8, 2017

The grand design of the Ayatollahs is to coalesce territorial continuity from Iran in the Persian Gulf, through Iraq and Syria to Lebanon (and its 30%-40% Shiite component) on the Mediterranean, proceeding to topple the pro-US Sunni regimes in the Arabian Peninsula and the Persian Gulf, Jordan and Egypt, gaining control over the paramount, strategic straits of Hormuz and Bab-el-Mandeb, much of the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea, the Muslim World and then the world at-large.

US pressure on Israel? No need to panic!
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
June 29, 2017

Contradicting the architects of US pressure on Israel, the defiance of US pressure since 1967 transformed Israel from a supplicant to a strategic partner of the US, bolstering the vulnerable pro-US Arab regimes, sparing the US the mega-billion-dollar requirement to expand its naval, air and land military presence in the Middle East, Indian Ocean, Red Sea and Mediterranean.

Israel’s economy – persistent defiance of conventional wisdom
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
June 17, 2017

In defiance of the jagged cutting edge of the Middle East, the inherent regional unpredictability, uncertainty, instability, violence, brutal Islamic intolerance of the “infidel” and the lack of formal diplomatic relations with most of its neighbors, Israel has displayed a unique level of resilience, steadfastness, stability and creativity.

The Palestinian-North Korean Connection
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
June 13.2017

North Korea considers its ties with the Palestinians compatible with its paramount strategic goal: the erosion of the US power projection in the Korean Peninsula, the Middle East and throughout the globe. Therefore, Pyongyang has attempted to destabilize pro-US regimes, while forging cooperation with regimes, which are rivals of – or hostile to – the US and its allies, such as Israel.

The Hebrew acronym of the seven names is חקת שבעה, which means “The Constitution of the Seven.”

The 1967 Six Day War mega-bonus to the USA
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
May 26, 2017

Furthermore, a September 1970 Syrian invasion of Jordan – during the September 1970 civil war between Jordan’s King Hussein and the Palestinians – was withdrawn after three days due to the US mobilization in the Mediterranean, the effective Jordanian military performance, and the deterring deployment of Israeli troops to the joint Israel-Syria-Jordan border, as well as Israel’s readiness to activate its air force (at the request of the US and Jordan).

Secretary Tillerson’s political correctness
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
May 21, 2017

The interview may have sent a message of US procrastination on the relocation of the US Embassy to Jerusalem, the ancient core of Judaism and Jewish history, which inspired the early US Pilgrims and Founding Fathers. Procrastination would be interpreted by Arabs as US retreat in the face of Arab pressure and threats, eroding the US posture of deterrence, triggering further pressure and emboldening anti-US Islamic terrorism.

Convergence of US-Israel national security interests
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
April 30, 017

Unlike the simplistic view of the Middle East, Arab policy-makers are well aware of their priorities, especially when the radical Islamic machete is at their throats. They are consumed by internal and external intra-Muslim, intra-Arab violence, which have bled and dominated the Arab agenda, prior to – and irrespective of – the Palestinian issue

Israel – US Relations: a mutually beneficial bilateral bond

The perplexing Middle East labyrinth vs. Western policy (VIDEO)
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger
April 15, 2017

Egyptian-born Prof. P. J. Vatikiotis, from the London University School of Oriental and African Studies, an icon of Middle East history, wrote in Arab and Regional Politics in the Middle East (Croom and Helm, 1984): “The use of terrorism by [Arab] rulers…has been for domestic, regional and international political purposes…. There is an unbridgeable gap between them and all other social and political arrangements… The dichotomy between the Islamic and all other systems of earthly government and order is clear, sharp and permanent; it is also hostile.”

Passover Guide for the Perplexed, 2017
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
April 8, 2017

Passover is the oldest Jewish national liberation holiday, highlighting the mutually-inclusive aspects of Judaism: religion, nationality, culture/morality, language and history. Passover highlights individual and national liberty and optimism, which have played a critical role in preserving Judaism, Jews and the yearning to reconstruct the Jewish Homeland, in defiance of the 40 years in the desert and the 2,500 year of exile, destruction, pogroms, the Holocaust, boycotts, wars, terrorism and anti-Semitism.

Connecting the Middle East Dots (Text and Video)
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger
April 1, k2017

The increasingly boiling Arab Street accentuates Israel’s unique role as the only stable, reliable, effective, democratic and unconditional national-security-producing-ally of the US, whose posture of deterrence – in the face of Islamic terrorism and Iran – is a life insurance policy for pro-US Arab regimes in the Middle East.

Is the Palestinian issue a core cause of Mideast turbulence? (VIDEO)
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger
March 25, 2017

The Muslim Brotherhood – not the Palestinian issue – has plagued Egypt since 1928. The Muslim Brotherhood, and its ideology, nurtured the Taliban, Al Qaeda, ISIS and other Islamic terror organizations. Therefore, President Al-Sisi has followed in the footsteps of President Sadat, who resisted President Carter’s pressure to place the Palestinian issue at the center of the 1977-79 Israel-Egypt peace process.

The State Department – a systematic blunderer (VIDEO)
by Ambassador (ret) Yoram Ettinger
March 19, 2017

In 2011, the Department of State welcomed the Arab Tsunami, which has displaced millions of people and murdered hundreds of thousands – and keeps raging – as an Arab Spring, youth revolution, Facebook revolution and a transition towards democracy. The failed track record of the State Department, in the Middle East, does not warrant adherence to its proposals.

Flawed Nature of US Security Guarantees And Constitutional Limits
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger
March 3, 2017

According to a November 15, 2001 Department of Justice memo to the White House National Security Council, irrespective of international law and consistent with the US Constitution, the President has the constitutional, discretionary authority to terminate, or suspend, unilaterally, fully or partly, the 1972 USA-USSR ABM Treaty – the limitation of anti-ballistic missile systems – without seeking coordination with Congress, and certainly not with the USSR, whenever the President determines that it is in the national interest to do so.

Israel’s economic surge in defiance of adversity
by Ambassador (ret) Yoram Ettinger
Feb 24, 2017

Israel is a rising power with a growing impact on world affairs. The American Interest, stated on January 24: “This is there is a new name on our list of The Eight Greats, Israel..” Never has Egypt-Israel security cooperation been as close as it is today…. The rise of Iran has made Israel critical to the survival of the Sunni Arabs, including the Gulf States…. Israel begins 2017 as the keystone of a regional anti-Iran alliance

Israel beware of US and international guarantees
by Ambassador (ret) Yoram Ettinger
Feb 19, 2017

“The effectiveness of a guarantee depends upon the willingness of the guarantor to react to a threat, and upon his ability to react with sufficient force…. [For instance,] fear of disrupting American relations with Arab states was a factor in the 1967 US decision not to force open the Red Sea Straits of Tiran to Israeli ships [contrary to the US commitment in 1957, in return for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula]..

A Palestinian state: is it good/bad for the USA?
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Feb 17, 2017

In 2017, conventional “wisdom” maintains that the Palestinian issue is the crux of the Arab-Israeli conflict, a core cause of Middle East turbulence and a crown-jewel of Arab policy-making. However, conventional “wisdom” was trounced on the rocks of Middle East reality, as it was when: the State Department appeased Egyptian President Nasser (1950s); facilitated the toppling of the Shah of Iran by the Ayatollas (1977-78); embraced Saddam Hussein, and inadvertently encouraged his August 1989 invasion of Kuwait;

Can Israel rely on foreign peacekeepers and security guarantees?
by Ambassador (ret) Yoram Ettinger
Feb 12, 2017

The assumption that inherently tenuous, intangible, open-ended and reversible US security commitments constitute an effective compensation for critical Israeli land, tangible, irreversible concessions – such as a retreat from the strategically and historically critical mountain ridges of Judea and Samaria – reflects detachment from the Washington constitutional labyrinth and recent precedents, engendering a false sense of security, thus compromising the existence of the Jewish state, transforming Israel from a robust national security producing asset to a frail national security consuming liability, undermining US interests and US-Israel relations.

Israel’s security prerequisites in the real Middle East

Israeli Arabs – integration rather than deprivation (VIDEO)
by Ambassador (ret.) Yoram Ettinger
Jan 28, 2017

Israeli Arabs strongly oppose Defense Minister Liberman’s land – not population – swap proposal, which stipulates the transfer of Arab-majority land in Israel to the Palestinian Authority, while Jewish majority land in Judea & Samaria (the West Bank) would be transferred to Israel. They are determined to remain Israeli citizens, rather than become subjects of the Palestinian Authority.

Secretary Kerry’s suspension of disbelief
by Ambassador (ret) Yoram Ettinger
Dec 31, 2016

Once again, Secretary Kerry attempts to scare the Jewish State into reckless concessions, implying that the only way to preserve Jewish demography (majority) is by conceding Jewish geography (the over-towering mountain ridges of Judea and Samaria). Once again, he reverberates inauthentic, manipulated Palestinian statistics, and therefore ignores the demographic reality in the combined area of Judea, Samaria and pre-1967 Israel: an up-trending 66% Jewish majority, featuring an unprecedented Westernization of Arab demography and a robust Jewish demographic (fertility and net-migration).

The Anti-Trump Riots are a Smoke Screen The Real Goal – Eliminate the Electoral College
by Tom DeWeese
Nov 22, 2016

The states created the Electoral College to make the election of the President a STATE election. The Founding Fathers, particularly those from small States, were very concerned that they would be smothered by the larger states. Under the plan, the connection to the popular vote was the selection of state electors. The popular vote was to be used to select individuals trusted by the people to select the President. The great mistake Electoral College opponents make is to believe the President was supposed to be elected by the people. It was never the plan.

Irrespective of occasional Arab emigration from British Mandate Palestine – due to intra-Arab terrorism, which has been an endemic feature in the Middle East – the substantial wave of Arab immigration from 1831-1947 triggered dramatic growth of the Arab populations in Jaffa (17 times), Haifa (12 times) and Ramla (5 times).

The 2016 proposed regional peace initiative is the latest in a litany of Western and Arab peace initiatives – introduced since 1948 – which have been wrecked on the rugged surface of the Middle East. These initiatives have stipulated dramatic Israeli concessions, and therefore fueling – not extinguished – violence, as demonstrated by the 1993 Oslo Accord and the 2005 disengagement from Gaza, resulting in unprecedented Palestinian incitement, hate-education, terrorism, missile salvos and non-compliance with agreements.

6-minute-video : Palestinian refugees – whose responsibility?
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger
June 3, 2016

Since the end of WW2, about 100 million refugees from Europe, Asia and Africa have been integrated into their host countries, unlike the Palestinian Arab refugees, who have been sacrificed by their leadership on the altar of delegitimizing Israel. According to General Alexander Galloway, the UNRWA Director in Jordan, as recounted at a May 25, 1953 hearing of the Near East Senate Subcommittee: “The Arabs states do not want to solve the refugee problem. They want to keep it as a weapon against Israel. Arab leaders don’t give a damn whether the refugees live or die.”

On October 11, 1947, Abdul Rahman Azzam Pasha, the first Secretary General of the Arab League told the Egyptian daily Akhbar al Yom: “…This will be a war of extermination and momentous massacre, which will be spoken of like the Tartar massacres, or the Crusaders’ wars…. Each fighter deems death on behalf of Palestine as the shortest road to paradise….The war will be an opportunity for vast plunder…. ” On August 2, 1948, the NY Times reported that the founder of the largest Islamic terror organization, the Muslim Brotherhood, Hassan al-Banna, instigated: “Drive the Jews into the sea… and never accept the Jewish State.”

Syria’s Prime Minister, Khaled al-Azam, admitted, in his 1973 memoirs: “We brought destruction upon the refugees, by calling on them to leave their homes.” On April 28, 1948, Sir Alan Cunningham, the last British High Commissioner in Palestine stated: A total evacuation was urged by higher Arab quarters. John Troutbeck, Head of the British Middle East Office, in Cairo (June 1949): “The refugees know who their enemies are – their Arab brothers who persuaded them to leave their homes…”

UNRWA was established on December 8, 1949 as a temporary, 2-3-year relief agency, but became permanent, the largest UN agency, overstaffed, featuring a $1 BN pension fund, and used as a dagger aimed at Israel. UNRWA deals only with Palestinian refugees, employing 30,000 people, compared with 6,400 people employed by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which deals with 60 million refugees. The UNHCR terminates refugees’ status, while UNRWA perpetuates and exacerbates refugees’ status and inflates their numbers.

At 68 – is Israel isolated?
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger

Notwithstanding Europe’s support of the Palestinian Authority and harsh criticism of Israel, NATO does not subscribe to the “isolate Israel” theory, follows its own order of geo-strategic priorities, and therefore refuses to cut off its nose to spite its face. Hence, on May 3, 2016, NATO significantly upgraded its ties with Israel, inviting Jerusalem to establish a permanent mission at their Brussels headquarters.

US investment in – not foreign aid to – Israel
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger

The annual US investment in Israel – erroneously defined as “foreign aid” (Foreign Military Financing) – has yielded one of the highest rates of return on US investments overseas. Israel is neither “foreign,” nor does it receive “aid.”

The sea of history has parted many times since the Biblical Exodus, featuring the Jewish people marching on relatively dry grounds (although soaked with much Jewish blood) to the Promised Land – in defiance of destruction, exile, expulsion, auto-da-fe’ (execution by burning), the Holocaust, pogroms, violent anti-Semitism, conventional warfare and terrorism – while their enemies drowned.

Protected-Christians in Muslim lands

Since 1993, the Palestinian Authority intimidation of Christians has intensified the flight of Christians. However, the Vatican and most Christian/Western governments have – knowingly – sacrificed the religious and civil liberties of Christian minorities – and their very existence – on the altar of wishful-thinking, political-correctness and appeasement.

Moreover, the Nazi “Yellow Patch” originated in Arab lands, where Jews – and other “infidels” – were forced to wear a “Yellow Badge of Shame” (Christians were assigned pink badges), as well as yellow belts, honey-colored hoods, yellow headgear, in addition to paying “infidel tax” (Jizyya, per the Quran, Surah 9, verse 29), prohibited to build tall homes and testify against “believers,” and were forced to place “infidel” signs on their homes.

The 586 BCE destruction of the First Temple (on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount), by the Babylonian Emperor, Nebuchadnezzar, triggered a wave of Jewish emigration to Babylon and to Persia, which replaced Babylon as the leading regional power. 70 years later, Xerxes the Great, Persian King Ahasuerus, succeeded Darius the Great and proclaimed his support for rebuilding the Temple and resurrecting Jewish life in the Land of Israel.

America, be wary of a Palestinian state
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger
March 18, 2016

According to the US foreign policy establishment, a Palestinian state would enhance stability, moderation, peace, and democracy. How credible is this assessment? In 2011, the US foreign policy establishment claimed that the eruption of turbulence on the Arab Street was an Arab Spring. Instead, the US has been confronted with an Arab Tsunami.

Mideast peace agreements are as durable as are Arab regimes, policies and accords, which have been, since the 7th century, the world’s most shifty, intolerant, violent, volatile and treacherous, as currently reflected by the intensifying Arab Tsunami from northwestern Africa to the Persian Gulf.

The 1982 PLO-Israel War in Lebanon – pre-empting a grand scale PLO assault on northern Israel -was the first war with no involvement of Arab military forces. The war erupted on June 6, but the Arab League convened an emergency session only in September, after the PLO had already been expelled from Beirut.

America be wary of a Palestinian State!

In 1993, Senator John Kerry and the US foreign policy establishment were convinced that Arafat — a role model for international terrorism — would respond to Israel’s unprecedented Oslo Accords concessions by “transforming himself from lawlessness to statesmanship.” However, their assessment was discredited by an unprecedented wave of Arafat and Mahmoud Abbas-engineered hate-education, incitement and (the resulting) terrorism, which still persists today.

High return on US investment in Israel
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger
Jan 17, 2016

The annual US investment in Israel — erroneously defined as “foreign aid” – has yielded one of the highest rates of return on US investments overseas. Israel is no longer a supplicant, transforming itself from a national security and economic consumer to a national security and economic producer, generating substantial dividends, which exceed the annual investment by its lead investor, the US. In 2016, Israel’s Air Force, which flies US-made aircraft, is the most cost-effective, battle-tested laboratory of the US Air Force and defense industries. It shares with them — real time online – operational, maintenance and repair lessons, which enhance US battle performance and upgrade research and development, global competitiveness, exports and employment base of the US defense industries (e.g., Lockheed-Martin, McDonnell Douglas, Bell Helicopter, Boeing Defense, Northrop Grumman, etc.).

The volcano of Islamic terrorism
by Ambassador (Ret) Yoram Ettinger
Jan 13, 2016

Most Muslim policy-makers have not represented the will of the majority, which has been systematically suppressed/oppressed in most Muslim societies (including Muslim communities in Western countries). These Muslim societies have never experienced democracy, exposing the majority to tectonic eruptions of violence by rogue regimes and organizations. The lava of Islamic terrorism has consumed mostly Muslims in the abode of Islam, but it is aiming to sweep the abode of the “infidel,” and is currently spreading into the streets of the USA, Europe, Russia, China, India, Africa, Asia and Australia.
